DENTAL IMPLANTOLOGY AT KREMLIN BICÊTRE
Dental implant
Implantology allows teeth to be replaced, but it is not only an aesthetic procedure. It also allows a certain well-being to be restored to patients suffering from the loss of one or more teeth.
Definition of a dental implant
A dental implant is like a small screw, it is an artificial root, it is made of titanium and biocompatible. It is used to replace the root of a damaged or missing tooth and can serve as an anchor point for a future dental prosthesis or ceramic crown. Whether for one or more missing teeth, we will offer you the solution best suited to your case, for an optimal result that is both aesthetic and reliable over time.
With dental implants, your new tooth will look and function like a healthy natural tooth.
An implant can be placed either immediately after a tooth extraction or after the bone and gum have healed. The surgical procedure is often simple and not very painful.
It is performed under local anesthesia, as for the treatment of a cavity. The definitive prosthesis is made after the bone has solidified around the implant (within 3 to 6 months). In certain conditions, a temporary prosthesis can be placed immediately after the implant is placed.
To place an implant, the volume and quality of the jawbone must be sufficient. These parameters are generally evaluated using a 3D Cone Beam scanner.
However, it is also possible to increase bone volume using a bone graft. It is also important that the neighboring teeth and gums are healthy.
When the tooth is removed, it sometimes happens that part of the alveolar bone surrounding it is lost (due to an infection for example). It is often necessary to regenerate this bone to place the implant in the best conditions.
Following the 3D Cone Beam, the dental surgeon assesses the bone volume available to place the implant.
- In height, particularly at the level of the upper molars (near the sinus) and lower molars
- In thickness, in the anterior or posterior areas
It may then be necessary to regenerate the lost bone by performing bone grafting.
Depending on the clinical cases, this filling can be carried out before, or at the same time as the implants.
During healing, this material will be completely or partially broken down and slowly replaced by your own bone. This is bone regeneration (BGR).
- Following an infection or simply the extraction of the tooth, the amount of bone to place
- The implant may be insufficient
- It is often necessary to perform bone fillings around an implant to complete
- Bone volume
- These techniques are not included in the social security nomenclature
Osteointegration is a welding phenomenon between a living bone and a metal (titanium).
This welding is done through the titanium oxide which covers the surface of the implant.
This is the integration of the dental implant at the bone level. The implant will be inserted into the bone in such a way that it does not move at all. The bone will then be able to reform around the implant.
During the healing phase, the process will cause ankylosis of the dental implant and block it: this is osteointegration.
Prostheses on implants are of the same nature as prostheses on natural teeth.
The prosthesis is screwed onto the implant abutment according to clinical conditions. It is ideal for replacing one or more missing teeth when the adjacent teeth are healthy.
The complete prosthesis is intended for completely edentulous patients (without teeth) to avoid a complete removable prosthesis. It requires the placement of 4 to 8 implants depending on the technique chosen by your dental surgeon.
- Just like the dental prosthesis, the implant prosthesis requires impressions to be made by a prosthetist.
- Thanks to implants, it is possible to regain fixed teeth, even when you no longer have any.
- Follow post-operative advice for more optimal healing
