Tooth whitening

Teeth whitening, commonly called “tooth bleaching” is a process that allows teeth to be lightened using a gel (carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide). These gels, when placed in prolonged contact with a tooth, act on the pigments that have formed over the years.

Teeth whitening is performed in 1 hour as an outpatient treatment (at home) using custom-made trays. The procedure can be repeated depending on the desired whitening and the initial shade. The treatment is painless and safe, but requires a prior oral health assessment. If indicated, the results are often immediate.

Frequently Asked Questions About Tooth Whitening

Yes. It is a proven method. Everything that makes a tooth naturally beautiful is preserved. Depending on each person’s lifestyle, the effect lasts from two to five years. Afterwards, a short maintenance treatment may be recommended for a long-lasting result.
The patient may feel some sensitivity in the teeth, but this will not affect their vitality. This sensitivity will fade quickly after stopping treatment, but your dentist may prescribe a specific treatment or toothpaste to reduce the discomfort. As a precaution, teeth whitening treatments are not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women and minors.

It depends on the patient and their lifestyle. It is advisable to limit the consumption of staining products during treatment and to maintain the resulting shade for a long time (tea, coffee, tobacco, tannic wine, etc.).

Your dentist will be able to advise you after carrying out an oral health assessment. He will identify the cause of the discoloration of your teeth and will suggest the most suitable technique or advise you on other treatment alternatives.
